I went to Sherdog to see how big a fuss was going on. I hate that place, all the new fans are fucking morons. Here's my take. Kimbo has three fights, he's a rookie and he knows it. I don't know what ppl expect from him. I felt that JT would be a little tough for him, can or not JT has fought some tough guys and has 23 fights under his belt. Kimbo needs to work on cardio and ground defense. He did what he had to do and won. The stoppage might have been early but JT was done.

Meh I stand by what I originally said.

-Side-mount and the ref stands the fighters up
-Thompson has Kimbo in a crucifix raining down elbows for a minute with no defense and the fight continues
-Thompson is hit with some shots, doesn't even go down and the ref stops it

Thompson was rocked in the first as well but he managed to take the fight to the ground and dominate Kimbo.

I had round 1 and 2 10/9 for Thompson and if Shaw or whoever didn't talk to the ref beforehand and beg him to favour Kimbo the fight would have ended up differently.

JT was one shot away from being KO'd, IMO. Being on CBS, the fights were stopped a little soon, IMO. I think ppl would have a different tune if the ref would have let Kimbo blast on JT some more. He was done and one or two more shots would have had him asleep.

From an MMA perspective I don't think this kinda thing is good for the sport.

I don't know. That fight with Yoshida was great for him but you're right, overall, he does seem to come up short a lot of the time. I think he's starting to realize that, too, and hopefully, he'll go home, fill in some of the holes in his game and grab the next opportunity that comes his way by its horns.
He seems like a good guy.

There was so much bullshit involving this card, especially in the Carano/Young fight. Her face was fucked up, but her eye was open and she wasn't bleeding, there was absolutely no reason to stop that fight.

Also, fights have been stopped for far less than what JT had Kimbo in. Hughes/Penn II anyone? It was a similar situation, and the fight was stopped.

Almost the entire card THE ENITRE CARD sucked.

That was the biggest disgrace ever. I saw 2 complete surrenders in the undercard on ProElite.com WTF was that shit about Serra?!!!

Almost the entire main card was all about "personality"/"high profile character" fighters. A loud mouth, a pretty girl, and a street thug. I was really loving Lawler and Smith but that had to get fucked with too. I really felt bad for those two after they got robbed of a decisive outcome especially since they just endured a war with eachother.

Kimbo showed some improvements and potential....alot of strength, but that call was ridiculous. Thompson got rocked really hard before and shook it off. At least look for the wounded guy to stumble into the cage or begin to lose balance first. Kimbo basically got saved because if Thompson would have wrapped him up one more time we may have seen something different happen. But the judges would probably give the fight to Kimbo because the whole night was filled with douchebaggery.

Kimbo I hated before, but this was a good showing for him. Bas Rutten is doing good work with the old guy. The GnP elbows at round two from James werent as powerful or having as many clear hits as much as Hughes Penn did


the ref did show favoritism but it really was just about to end with that last barrage. fights have been stopped like that before so Im not surprised it did then. It wasnt some complete bullshit stoppage JT got his head busted

I agree the card sucked as far as the officiating went. The Lawler/Smith, and Kimbo/JT fights were stopped early. I still feel Kimbo was one good shot from dropping JT and TKOing him. I feel bad for Kimbo, it's not his fault he's fighting in main events. That's why he's so criticized IMO. He shouldn't be, he's just a rookie. All he can do is go out and fight, and he does. He has a lot to work on and I respect his humbleness towards his fellow fighters and the sport. I will support the guy, he needs more experience that's all.

when your offense is some desperate punch that misses while taking 5 or 6 consecutive haymakers,and your eyes are rollin around in your head... he was going down no doubt about it

I think JT was winning but if the ref hadnt stepped in when he did JT would probably got knocked out. As for their cardio I think it was pretty good. They are both big guys and its was a tough fight JT taking shots and kimbo with JT laying ontop of him, if kimbo had more ground skill he would have to try and use brute force to get him off thus save a bit more energy. But kimbos doing ok so far.

I think hanging in there with Kimbo the way he did earned him a few more paydays. That fight proved that they better not put Kimbo in with anyone good if they want to keep him undefeated.
