I didn't say he was a mental midget, or stupid. I just said he's mentally instable/insecure in himself. It's obvious when they go to his corner. I've been in life or death situations with less doubt than he exudes. Anyone crying about their groin in a level of athletics as high as GSP is in has mental issues. I can't count how many times I've pulled my groin.

His loss to Serra ain't that many fights away, so he's still climbing the p4p ladder up IMHO. Also, p4p is not just how you clean out your division but it's how well you can jump up or down in weight and still succeed (or would theoretically). Fedor could cut to 205 and wipe out everyone. He could also stay the same and wipe out everybody at super-heavyweight. Anderson has fought at 170, but probably couldn't get back there, but he could do a 177-180 catch weight and dominate. Anderson has gone up to 205 and been successful.

IMHO if GSP moved up to 185 to test the waters, he would get in some real trouble. He'd have huge trouble with contenders like Marquardt or Okami. He'd get smoked vs Silva, Hendo, or Franklin. He'd probably lose a decision to Lindland.

Fedor doesn't have any competition at heavyweight or in the weight class above him (super-heavyweight) or below him, except for Lesnar. It's a given he'd destroy everybody else.

Silva can easily destroy everybody at 185 and 205. The only close fight at 205 is Machida, and IMHO Anderson is tailor made to beat him (too bad they'll never fight).

Torres is just a tad above GSP in my p4p rankings, because I think he could go up to 145 and beat Brown, Aldo, or Faber. If GSP hadn't had two losses not to long ago at the weight class he's supposed to dominate, then he'd edge out Torres.

HHJ

As far as St. Pierre's loss to Serra, it's one that he's "avenged." In the case of Silva, he hasn't fought Takase or Chonan again. I'm sure virtually everyone would say that he would beat them if he fought either again, but that *is* just conjecture until it's actually proven.

Agreed on the point of Fedor, but people always seem to neglect to take into account that heavyweight is virtually always a shallower division than lower weight classes.

Edit: Meant to quote RFD's post.

Ryno

At this point, sure. They happened in 2003 and 2004, though, which means there's been plenty of time to have a rematch. Whether that occurs (which won't, I'm sure), doesn't change that Anderson has outstanding - no, I don't mean spectacular, I mean in the sense that they've never been rectified by a rematch - to two fighters in his career.

Maybe but guys like couture and nog and fedor had to overcome enormous weight disadvantages and i think this is something only hws have to put up with

People always say that, but consider that the weight disparities at heavyweight count for a much lower percentage than they would at the lower weights, 135, 145, 155, etc. Also, consider that fighters cut weight to make those lower weights, whereas weight cutting is much rarer at heavyweight. Fights with large weight discrepancies still do occur from 205 and down.

HHJ
08-08-2009, 12:01 AM
I know that it counts for less but weight is still a big factor in the hw game, especially now that there are some skilled super heavies making 265. Guys who have trouble making 205 are going through more adversity than guy in other weight classes have to take into consideration

I think Machida would win early, but Fedor would figure out a way to win and end up with a KO in the 2nd or 3rd. It's a good fight if you force Fedor to cut weight. I don't think Machida would do very good moving up, because putting on weight would slow him down, and he'd be very small heavyweight.

Also, somebody mentioned earlier about heavyweights not being as stacked. That's why I got Anderson just above Fedor. Also, because until recently Fedor was fighting a string of cans or underweight opponents - Zuluzhino, Coleman, Hunt, Lindland, and Hong Man Choi were Fedor's opponents between Crocop in 2005 and Sylvia in 2008. That's 3 years worth of crappy opponents, and then he fights once last year and once this year. That's only two quality opponents in almost 5 years.

^^ well of course.

Machida got some KO's and beat Rashad, how can he not jump on him nuts?

All it took was one fight with Rashad, who solid thinks sucks.

rashad sucks

How does one fight with a fighter that "sucks" jump one from overrated prospect to top 3 p4p in the eyes of solidasfok
