Who will be the next great fighters?

Over the past 5 years we've seen an amazing evolution in MMA. It wasn't that long ago that guys like Chuck Liddel, Matt Hughes and Rich Franklin were dominant champions and on the other side of the ocean Wanderlei was still a force, Cro Cop was one of the most feared fighters in the world and Fedor was well, Fedor.

Now we have (with the exception of Fedor and a couple of others) and entirely new crop of dominant champions/fighters. We know the usual suspects:

*I'm tiredasfok so this list isn't very well thought out. Bear with me.

Fedor
BJ
GSP
Henderson
Nog


But a lot of these guys are probably starting to look at the back 9 of their careers.

I'm wondering who will be the next great fighters that leave legacies even remotely close to what guys like those above will leave behind.

Who from Today's crop will we look at 10 years from now and remember them the way we remember BJ or GSP or Fedor? I can see a couple with potential. Maybe Machida, maybe Shogun if he continues on his path to recovery, maybe Mousasi.

I don't know I just don't see that many guys in the current crop of young fighters that are going to be as great as their predecessors.

I think TUF has pretty much run its course as the young fighters can get paid elsewhere now so that ship has sailed.

Those are the only 2 that I can think of right now.

The champs in the respective divisions are pretty solid. I would love to see a rematch of Machida/Shogun that would settle the score for the first fight.

That is the only one of the champs in the UFC that isnt rock solid right now in the publics opinion.

Saying that there is going to be a dominant guy in the WEC's 145 lb. division is just ridiculous to me. That division is stacked more than any in the world and their are a lot of guys that can beat anyone on any day. There are even guys that haven't hit main event status coming up that are sure to make waves (Gamburian, LC Davis, Fabiano).

I wasn't trying to say that anyone at 145 was going to be dominant, I was just saying that with such a stacked division of different kind of fighters there isn't a very good chance of a dominant fighter coming out of it.

Shields/Zaromskis would be interesting. A quick fight, but interesting. If it goes to the ground, Shields probably finishes within the 1st and if it doesn't go to the ground, Zaromskis probably finishes early.

if you're talking next Jordan, then Mousasi and Aldo (eventually maybe moving up to 155) are the only guys i can think of off hand w. massive and obvious talent.

guys like Zaromskis, Hornbuckle, and Semtex come to mind as guys who are seriously talented and who have been largely under the radar. they're all closing in on 30 though so they may be peaking very soon.

young guys to keep an eye on are Jay Silva and obviously Jon Jones.

That division is rife with mid tier fighters but there aren't many that are looking to be dominant. Machida is still young and with the exception of how he looked against Rua has appeared dominant. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back

I've hardly watched any thai boxing but what I have watched was really entertaining.

I think in general we need to see more of the smaller guys. The small guys are just as exciting as the big guys in MMA because there are still a ton of knockouts thanks to the tiny gloves.

In fact they are more exciting because they have such incredible cardio and speed.
