That's silly, he was done from strikes. The fight was stopped and a point was deducted. If you get a point deducted and your opponent can't continue, you lose. Like I said the stoppage and the point deduction were bad calls, IMO, but the outcome was not with those factors.

there was a timeout for the ref to take a point from jones, when the fight was going to continue the ref asked hamill if he could, hamill said no so the fight was stopped.

if a guy gets leg kicked and blows his knee out and goes down as hes on the ground he gets hit with an illegal blow, ref halts the fight fight, deducts a point and then the other guy cant continue, its not a DQ because the fighter cant continue due to his injury which had nothing to do with the illegal blow, if the fighter cant continue due to an illegal blow its a DQ and i dont believe that was the case here

jones obviously dominated the fuck outta hamill BUT to be accurate here, the fight wasn't "called" at the moment Mazagatti jumped in. he stopped action so he could ascertain if the illegal blow had rendered Hamill unable to go on - and at the same time he deducted a point. that's what refs do. it's not his fault that the fight was just a few good shots away from being called anyway.

it's no different than when someone lands a knee to the head of a downed opponent. you stop action and see what the situation is. if the fighter is ok, you maybe deduct a point and pick it up where ya left off. if the fighter is fucked up and can't go on, then the fight is called.

that's life. don't throw illegal blows - esp if you're mounted and on the verge of getting the TKO.

i just watched it again. there were at least 2 illegal elbows dropped - one was a direct hit to the forehead. and he knew the second Mazzagatti called it that he'd fucked up.

before that Jones threw a ton of shots, but the vast majority missed; and i mean like 1 or 2 outta every 10. there musta been 40 or 50 by the end. Hamill did a great job of covering up - esp the first few volleys. some were getting through and Jones was getting frustrated, but nevertheless, he wasn't connecting w. any KO-level shots. it was VERY CLOSE to reaching the point of being called, but Hamill was covered up very well initially.
