Yes he was thoroughly beaten and completely outclassed by Aldo in this fight. Faber landed only 25 of 112 strikes (22%), while Aldo landed 139 out of 165 strikes (84%). Faber landed 0 of 9 takedown attempts, and every time Aldo attempted to advance position on the ground he was successful (4 out of 4 attempts). It was an extremely one-sided fight both standing and on the ground.

That being said, Faber probably beats everybody else at 145, and he could probably cut down to 135 and beat all but one or two guys at that weight. He's got a large local fan base, he sells tickets, and he has lucrative sponsorships.

Even if he doesn't cut to 135, there are some good selling catchweight matches with him involved that could sell, too. Torres/Faber at 140 is a great fight. He could fight Kid Yamamoto at 140. He maybe could fight Cerrone at 150 (I'm not sure if Cerrone can cut that low). Maybe he could move up and put the nail in the coffin on Razor Rob's career.

There's a lot of good fights left for him - he just needs avoid fighting Aldo for awhile (or forever). It's just a horrible match-up for him. He's an exciting fighter that sells tickets, and he's got a good 5-7 years left. Talking about him retiring is stupid.
