Tito Ortiz and his attorney claim Jenna Jameson is addicted to Oxycontin -- and they say that's what led to the alleged incident that got the MMA fighter busted for felony domestic violence.

Ortiz dropped that bombshell during a news conference moments ago at a restaurant in North Hollywood.

Tito's attorney Chip Matthews said that Jenna's been battling addiction to the painkiller for more than a year now, and that Tito and family members have been protecting her.

As for what happened in Tito and Jenna's home Monday morning -- Matthews repeatedly said, "Tito never touched Jenna." He claims that Jenna had a relapse and that Tito confronted her about the drugs he claims to have found.

Tito was very choked up when he said he hopes "Jenna will be okay." Tito also said, "my parents have gone through addiction and I'm not going to let my family go through that."

Matthews claimed Jenna has been to rehab, and that her addiction has led to multiple suicide calls to 911.

So what's Jenna's side of this? During the news conference the former porn star was packing up to leave for Las Vegas. When told about Tito's allegations, she said "he's trying to save his career" -- and then hit the road for Vegas with two friends.

Tito can't go home because a temporary restraining order was granted after his arrest -- which is common in domestic violence cases. We're told Jenna's dad is taking care of Tito and Jenna's twin sons.

After being arrested following an alleged domestic dispute against girlfriend Jenna Jameson on Monday morning, a teary-eyed Tito Ortiz held a press conference with his attorney in Los Angeles late Monday evening to speak for the first time with regards to the incident in which he alleged Jameson is suffering an addiction to the narcotic pain reliever, OxyContin.

"Jenna has been fighting a battle with OxyContin addiction for the past year. For Tito and her family this has been an uphill battle. Unfortunately this morning she had a relapse," attorney Chip Matthews said. "Tito was trying to help her, she has threatened suicide before. Tito has done everything in his power to protect her privacy and the privacy of their children."

According to Matthews, on Monday morning the UFC champ confronted his girlfriend (and mother of their twin boys) about the drugs he had found and she denied it. Jameson was allegedly suffering an "emotional breakdown", prompting a 911 call from Jameson's father Larry who was reportedly not in the room at the time of the confrontation.

Matthews also reinforced numerous times that Ortiz never ever laid a hand on Jameson.

The "Queen of Porn" has been transforming herself from adult film star to mother and businesswoman.

"It means the world to me, my friends and family for their support. My parents have been through an addiction and I see it in the mirror again. I am not going to let my family go through that," a sobbing Ortiz told us. "I speak from my heart, I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be okay."

"When you're dealing with people on OxyContin they don't always have the best sense of balance," Matthews added. "Jenna and Tito have two children together, they planned on spending the rest of their lives together. They want nothing more than to work together on this."

This is what can happen when domestic violence cases get played out in the media. Apparently, everyone involved in the Jenna Jameson-Tito Ortiz mess has come to their senses or realized there's too much money at stake to keep this going.

According to TMZ, the couple is now saying that Jameson doesn't a have drug problem and Ortiz didn't hit her:

"What actually happened has now been dramatically distorted and misinterpreted and remarks that both Tito and I made after the police arrived reflect the state of shock that we were both in," said Jameson.

As for Tito, we're told he's now backing off what he strongly insinuated ... that Jenna is an OxyContin addict. We're told Tito's position now is that he found two OxyContin pills in a pair of her pants pocket and may have jumped to conclusions. Jenna says the pills were very old. And, as we first reported, Jenna tested negative for drugs this week.

Tito's lawyer, Chip Matthews, tells TMZ the whole thing was "a big misunderstanding."

Meanwhile, one of Tiger Woods' alleged flings, Joselyn James, claims she witnessed Ortiz getting violent with Jameson in the past.

Let's hope the happy couple passes on responding.

If you've been living under a rock or hate TMZ, then you missed Ortiz's arrest on Monday, Jameson saying she was pressing charges because she had been knocked down, Ortiz breaking down and claiming his girlfriend had a drug problem during a "press conference" at what looked like a Pizza Hut and Jameson passing a drug test.

Now the happy couple can go back to badgering Chuck Liddell on Twitter.
