VT always gets stuck with a top team in their first game. Last few years we played Alabama, LSU, USC and all these teams went on to win national championships. I'm not saying Boise State is gonna be national champs, but the loser of the September 6 VT/Boise State game is fucked for the season. Anyone see who is favored and what the line is? If we lose hopefully we will still win the ACC and go to a BCS bowl, but we've got a pretty young team. I don't care what anyone says we have the best backfield in the country.

Tupac Shakira

And why the hell is Nebraska ranked above us? We beat them last year and they lost a lot of their best players while we pretty much lost no one.

The uniforms are 37 percent lighter than current designs, relieving players of extra weight in a game that demands top speed. Even when wet, these uniforms are lighter than their standard-issue counterparts when completely dry. Dual-density foam padding provides critical protection and greater mobility than traditional pads for unencumbered speed. What sounded really fishy at first now looks even worse. Much worse. On Monday, reports of documents that Oregon released about Will Lyles' very expensive recruiting service of a "National" package for 2011 recruits revealed that 133 of the 140 prospects were from Texas -- and all the recruits listed were actually from the 2009 class. This looks only more dubious knowing that Lyles -- the Texan at the center of this -- has been a mentor to former five-star running back recruit Lache Seastrunk, who signed with the Ducks in February of 2010, less than one month after Oregon shelled out $25,000 for Lyles' "recruiting services."

There is also another curious aspect of Oregon's reaction to the Lyles recruiting service dustup: Where is the video that he should have provided? I spoke with several in-house recruiting coordinators on Monday and Tuesday and each said that for $25,000, Lyles better have provided a lot of video. Not just game film, but cut-ups as well for recruits in Texas and Louisiana and Florida and Georgia and California ...

According to the Register-Guard, an Oregon spokesman said that because Ducks coaches typically file their videos under a recruit's name, they don't document from whom they received the videos. That explanation didn't sound logical to any of the sources I spoke to, who pointed out that any service that sends DVDs will have the company logo on it.

When the NCAA investigated the matter in Oregon, what evidence of this extensive service was the Ducks program able to provide? It will have to be a better answer than what they told the newspapers.

(I texted coach Chip Kelly for comment after the report came out, but haven't heard back from him.)

It is also worth noting here that in the past few years the NCAA has tried to close a gaping loophole that existed with recruiting services. The NCAA enacted legislation for the 2010-11 academic year that affected what programs can and cannot purchase. The legislation was passed and put into effect in January 2010, so it was in effect at the time of Oregon's purchase of Will Lyles' service.

The big problem with the loophole was related to basketball recruiting. The NCAA established criteria that these recruiting services needed to meet, such as providing quarterly updates, among other things. One of the in-house recruiting coordinators I spoke with explained that the legislation, which initially said you couldn't buy only video from such services, didn't understand the way many legitimate football recruiting services operate. The videos, such as game tape and cut-ups, are the primary product recruiting services provide college football programs. The tricky part, the source said, is that in recent years some recruiting services have also been touting that they'll provide the colleges with a connection to recruits, as well.

"They'll tell you, 'Well, I'll call a kid and tell him to call you,'" the source explained. "'I'm an avenue for you. I talk to these players and tell them what you want. Call me and I'll tell you who the players are in that area.'"

Such services are acting as middle men, and in essence are also selling their relationships after they have gotten close to elite recruits in their given area. If the services also provide their share of recruiting film, they've been able to operate in a gray area.

But where does that leave Will Lyles and Oregon?

Also released on Monday were records showing that Oregon running backs coach Gary Campbell made 27 calls to Lyles during that time and received 11 calls from Lyles. According to the Register-Guard, the Oregon records also show around 400 text messages exchanged between Lyles and Ducks coaches over the past four years. Coach Chip Kelly exchanged a total of 12 texts with Lyles on the two days before Jan. 17, 2008, when UO received a verbal commitment from LaMichael James. The running back from Texas has since emerged as a star for Oregon and has described Lyles as an advisor.

When the NCAA spoke to Oregon earlier this spring, the Ducks had better have been able to show more proof than what was released by the newspaper -- or they'd better hope the NCAA buys that they were hoodwinked by Will Lyles.

more stuff for wig about his cheating ducks

From @realjuanpablo: Do you think the Oregon Ducks will get out of this mess?

Things have been looking worse and worse for Oregon since this story broke a few months ago, with the release of each new report and each new detail. When Will Lyles sat down with Yahoo! for that story that ran on July 1, it really painted a bad picture for the Ducks and coach Chip Kelly.

The good news for Oregon: There is still a lot of gray area in how the NCAA handles recruiting services, and as I explained a few weeks ago, this is an area where they've been struggling to sort things out. (This is made evident by the NCAA's first attempt at creating legislation having to do with recruiting services: It initially said teams couldn't buy only video from such services, basically showing that the NCAA didn't understand the ways in which many legitimate football recruiting services operate.)

The bad news: Lyles' story, as he's now telling (and seems comfortable telling the NCAA), is going to be very hard for Oregon to defend. His actions likely would get him classified as a booster. Worse still is that he's basically telling reporters that 11 months after Oregon paid him $25,000, Kelly and another staffer contacted him to get him to scramble to send them some kind of recruiting materials, which sounded a lot like a cover-up was in the works.

Here's where the Will Lyles-as-a-viable-recruiting-service explanation is going to fall apart: Major college programs are not shelling out $25,000 for recruiting services sight unseen. Even spending $10,000 is a lot, but Lyles is listed as a "national" recruiting package for Oregon. That means they should've expected, or been paying for, so much more.

Every year at the American Football Coaches Association convention, dozens of recruiting services pitch their merits to college coaches, administrators and in-house recruiting coordinators. What they're all essentially doing is showing the coaches their latest technology and demonstrating just how much game film they can provide in terms of volume, accessibility and sortability. This is high-tech stuff. No one is going up to the coaches with some sort of Tom Lemming-style book or Mel Kiper's guide that is put together at the nearest Kinko's and solely touting his analysis of each prospect for $25,000.

And, as I said Thursday on "Outside the Lines," it's preposterous to suggest that a program would put on their books $25,000 for intel, which is how Will Lyles has been explaining it on his radio appearances after having told Yahoo! last Friday that it was for "influence."

There is a significant difference. Keep in mind, any decent recruiter can figure out who the "champion" (decision-maker or most influential person) is for each prospect. They don't need to pay a Will Lyles for that kind of information. You can get that from a high school coach, parent, older brother or uncle. Having a guy who will act as a middle man, telling a blue-chipper when to call and whom to call, and possibly accompany the prospect on a ride up to a college for a camp or an unofficial visit, or even where he should sign, would be much more valuable to a college program.

It remains to be seen what Oregon has told the NCAA. It's one thing not to be truthful to the media, but it's another thing not to be forthcoming with the NCAA. That's the reason that so many college fans have become familiar with the term "10.1" in the past year.

Two months ago, even a few weeks ago, I was fairly sure Kelly would survive this. Now I'm not so sure.

oregon has a redshirt fr., true fr, and commit for next year (that michigan offered and usc is still pursuing hard, but is a solid commit) at qb that are all really good at running the read option. 2013 is going to be a battle when DT leaves.

We lost a lot of people, but Marcus Davis and David Wilson are killing it. The QB Logan Thomas needs to be more accurate with his passing but he is a great runner that plows through linebackers like a fullback. He is 6'6'' 254 and runs a 40 in 4.6. Tx will get the same tv revenue as every other pac school, network or not. It will be even split. But the pac's deal is worth more than they can get solo. The only question is if they want to try and big brother people. If they want control, they go by themselves. If they aren't babies and will take the money, they come west.

___
09-18-2011, 03:54 PM
article is from a pay site so i'll paste it

The Pac-12 appears to be working out the final details of a deal that would bring Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the conference, a well-placed source close to the situation told Hookem.com on Sunday morning. Nothing has been accepted or approved, yet, but the deal would allow the Longhorns to keep the Longhorn Network. Texas would have to add Pac-12 (soon to be 16) content to the LHN programming.

The Longhorns would be able to keep all of their revenue from the network if that amount is greater than one-sixteeth of what the entire Pac-12 receives for its third-tier rights. However, if one-sixteenth of the money the Pac-12 receives from third-tier rights ends up being a larger amount, the schools would divide the revenue evenly and everybody would receive the same amount, the source said.

For football, the conference will be aligned in four four-team pods with Texas being joined by Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Texas will play those schools every year.

How will the overall playing schedule work out for football?

As of right now, the conference is discussing an alignment where teams would play ninc conference games. Teams would play every other team in their pod along with two teams from each of the other three pods.

If the Longhorns were in Pod A, they would play the other Pod A teams (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech) every year. They would also play two teams from Pod B, Pod C and Pod D, bringing the total to nine conference games every year.

It is believed the championship game would be decided by overall conference record, meaning any two teams could play in the championship game on a given year.

The source said they expect that the Texas board or regents will vote Monday to authorize Longhorn president Bill Powers to make a decision regarding realignment.

interesting that there will be four divisions.

You should read about UW-Madison. It is a huge party school. Top 5 in the nation, but you need like a 3.75 gpa to get in. Even the nerds here party harder than the faggots in the rest of the country.

Tom VanHaaren of WolverineNation on ESPN.com reports that Stefon Diggs (Olney, Md./Good Counsel), the No. 10 overall prospect on the ESPNU 150 and the No. 2 overall receiver in the country, has his eye on the Michigan Wolverines.

Diggs' high school teammate, Blake Countess, recently won a starting cornerback job with the Wolverines, and that made a big difference for Diggs. "At first I was a little shaky with Michigan, because I knew Blake was one of the best guys out there but he wasn't playing," he said. "Then I noticed that he's gotten the starting job. He worked for it and won it, and that makes me feel more comfortable that they'll play the best guys."

"As of right now I don't have a top list anymore. It had been previously released, but I'm coming out with a top seven on Nov. 29, on my birthday," he said. "I have to focus right now on my season, but I plan on visiting Michigan some time in December."

Diggs adds that he'd like to announce his decision with a press conference on ESPN once his high school season ends.

___
11-22-2011, 03:05 AM
pharaoh brown. he was a michigan commit but decommited and visited oregon saturday. not a big time guy though. dwayne stanford was a long time tOSU lock and was there saturday, sounds like a good chance of a commit tomorrow from him.

i think arik armstead is going to commit but not for a while. usc is losing out big time with how they're handling his brother.

it's fucking sad that a legit top five-eight school, boise state is relegated to playing in tonight's maaco bowl against a .500 team. both team's fanbases travel well and will help bolster our crap economy, but i'd rather see boise be in a bcs game and not a vt team who plays in a down and out acc conference with two twenty point losses or a michigan team who plays in the joke of the big ten conference and whose play is about as consistent and predictable as the dance moves of the wacky waving inflatable flailing arm man found outside your local mexican tire shop.
