View Full Version : Recruiting Classes
Anyone's team making big waves a couple days before signing day? De'Anthony Thomas is rumored to decommit from USC and come up here, which would be huge. Marqise Lee has had strong interest for quite a while now but haven't heard much as of late. If Thomas comes in, it will be a top five class. Either way this is definitely the best class ever and I'm stoked on it. Helps take away the sting of the natty.

too bad they didn't go to SDSU. If he would have stayed another year SDSU could have done some great things.
SDSU's offense was looking pretty sick. Aren't they really young too?

sdsu had a good qb and wr's. but you had to know hoke wasn't going to stay there long. they came a long way in two years.

think the QB will be a senior next year. Hoke built the team and they're young for the most part but him leaving is definitely gonna hurt the recruiting class.

with the addition of the new DC from the Ravens, Michigan will start getting top defensive talent.
I'm curious to see where Blackmon and Lyerla will play. Both want to play on offense but there are only so many balls to go around. Blackmon has amazing big play talent and Lyerla is a freak with great hands, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have Lyerla at OLB and Blackmon at safety.

Where do they usually recruit from? Like what states? More curious how much they compete with tOSU that anything.

I could see Oregon changing to a 3-3-5 or a 3-4. I think it would do a lot of good.

before rodriguez they recruited heavily in the midwest and california. rodriguez fucked it all up and could only get some of the lower recruits from florida. hoke will get all the top players from michigan and ohio again.

It was funny cause monty was talking shit about Rodriguez using the 3-3-5 and was glad he was gone, then came hoke, who also uses the 3-3-5.

3-3-5 is a shit defense. you can't stop the power running teams without a front seven

But I agree with mante, a 3-3-5 in the slow ten is pretty dumb.

he didn't bring his DC to michigan so I wouldn't worry about that. Michigan will go back to the traditional pro style offense and 4-3

slow ten? OSU was able to handle the speed of Oregon in the Rose Bowl a year ago.
They beat Oregon up front, nothing to do with speed.

Oregon isn't physical enough to beat power teams.
Jared Ebert will help that next year. And they lost the NC on a last second FG, so . . .

I'm really not going to be bothered by comments about a coach who went to the RB and natty in his first two years. Along with the best two recruiting classes ever.

The ESPN 30 for 30 about the OSU Michigan rivalry was awesome. It was talking about how every vaunted recruit from either school came from like right at the border and near the other school and shit.
The Hawkeyes just gave thirteen players potential long-term kidney problems after some overly strenuous practices. not to worry, Ferentz was out of state recruiting so it's safe to say they're going to be able to replace all of them.

Yesterday we talked about DeAnthony Thomas, a cornerback who had committed to USC, but had reportedly said that he was leaning towards dropping USC for the Oregon Ducks. Now comes (very) late word that a third Pac-12 team may land Thomas' services: The Washington Huskies.
Adam Gorney of Rivals.com dropped that info during an online chat on Tuesday: "Some rumors going around now that De'Anthony Thomas might be seriously considering Washington, too."
Between Thomas and Jacoby Brissett, the Huskies are now in the mix for two of the hottest recruiting battles in the nation.

lol, well construction starts this year on a new 6 story 41 million dollar (unfurnished) facility building that opens in 2013.
Oh, and this new stadium is named after Phil's oldest son. Who do you think will be the heir to Nike? lol

The more they win, the more Uncle Phil pumps into the program. And he has unlimited money. By the time I'm 80 and they stop getting money, they will have enough history and tradition not to need it.

and no. theres been no competition in the NW for quite some time. i mean, i hate to state the obvious, but recruiting to bum fuck eugene will always play a major roll in oregon athletics. IF sark is really the right guy, oregon will only be tough shit for a few more years
What school has the best selling point once it gets players on campus - and what is that?
Barry Every: I'm hearing Oregon has the best of the best when it comes to facilities, uniforms, etc. I think once kids go out there they see how beautiful the state is and peaceful the surroundings are, plus the Ducks have all that Nike product coming in and being updated on a regular basis. They used to just recruit California and the Pacific Northwest, and now they are getting kids from all over the country. Maybe it's the feathers.
Adam Gorney: There probably isn't a better indoor facility than Oregon because of all the money Nike sinks into the program. It is an absolutely immaculate building with all kinds of amenities, probably many of them unnecessary for football players but still a spectacular showcase for recruits visiting campus. The locker room is gorgeous, there's a waterfall, a juice bar, all kinds of hot and cold tubs and everything a football player might want or need. A new $41 million, six-story building is planned for 2013. Getting national recruits to Eugene, Ore., is often difficult but the facilities make many of them want to stay.
Keith Niebuhr: I'll throw a couple of schools out there. Let's start with Auburn. What I keep hearing is that prospects love the kindness and familylike atmosphere there. The other school I hear a lot of good things about is Oregon. Just about every prospect says they're blown away by the facilities in Eugene.
When kids arrive on campus, they get blown away. The REASON De'Anthony Thomas may come here is because his parents like the safe environment. Parents have a lot of pull sometimes, and Eugene is about the safest place you can ship a kid unless you're scared he might smoke pot.
Eugene is never going to be a city that people from the outside are going to rave about, but it's a chill little town where Oregon football is the only game around. And I know you hear about them all the time, but I'm not sure if you realize just how amazing they are.
http://oregongridiron.com/
Don't downplay the jerseys and free Nike shit either. UW has a long fucking ways to go. It's not like they're a historical powerhouse. They had ten good years.

theres no point in arguing, oregon is here to stay and my team has got the shit kicked out of them 7 years in a row. but even you said it, oregon is 1/4 the size of washingtons back yard... i mean, the numbers just dont favor oregon.
In order for Oregon to be good they need to be able to recruit nationally for sure.
But hey, if Nebraska can do it, why can't Oregon?

Carry it, no. And UW wasn't a flash in the pan, but not great many years.
I don't think people understand how impressive the last 10 years have been

2007 - 2nd until Dixon got hurt with 3 games left. Likely the best team

I haven't. And I don't see that happening. I thought we were really close to getting to the PAC-16 with the TX and OK schools, but I don't see OK leaving by themselves. Then again, money talks and TX got all of it with the last tv deal for the big 12

Roderick Byers indeed signed with Clemson on Wednesday, adding another top defensive prospect to the Tigers' haul. Byers reportedly was not offered by Clemson until Tuesday night, after both Jerell Adams and Phillip Dukes (see below) committed to South Carolina, and Byers quickly accepted.

how are the entry requirements in Oregon, wig? Michigan had some top talent in the past years not able to get in because of their requirements. They also don't want JUCO transfers and that's one of the things Rodriguez wanted to bring in. Glad he's gone.
Yeah losing him sucked. And standards are low. They're actually looking to raise them.
But lol @ you saying Hoke got a solid class.

Rivals has them ranked 28th. That's not bad considering that he had two or three weeks to recruit. Also, how many of these espn 150 guys actually pan out? Lots of them don't even get past their freshman year.
Guys like Devon Blackmon and De'Anthony Thomas pretty much always make it.

Has Oregon ever had a star running back? James is too small and won't be able to hack it in the NFL either. Stewart isn't a star RB either.
A lot of places have him as an underdog prospect, which is exactly what Oregon has a history of finding. Josh Huff was 3 stars too, and a beast as a freshman.
You're basing it off of one back. Stop being dumb. Either way, I know people who are involved with local football still. He's all but signed already. Just like I knew Lyerla (you know, that five star kid this year) was coming to Oregon since the beginning of the season.

Regarding Fisher, I think he would have been too small for the style that Michigan will be going towards. He was perfect size wise for Rodriguez's style since they like using undersized quick lineman. He's probably better off going to a spread option offense program.
He's 6'7 270 and has a big enough frame to put on quite a bit more weight. He's nowhere near small.

6'6 260 bud. I thought he was 6'4. But we'll see. Either way, he wasn't an athlete that was going to make or break their class. Next year they'll get even better lineman, because Michigan has a history of producing great lineman.
Stop cherrypicking. ESPN does their original list/stats and doesn't update again.

And lol, keep waiting on 'next year'. Next year for Michigan was supposed to be the year forever now. They suck and have been losing local recruits to tOSU, now they're losing local kids to Oregon.
Will need to add 30 plus pounds of muscle, but as stated above he has the frame to do so

Michigan has been losing local kids for years because of Rich Rod, losing a three star athlete doesn't hurt as much like I said. Now if this kid was a ranked in the top 150 it would be a different story.
And like I said before, Michigan has been plucking kids out of Ohio for years. If you look at their commit listed it's littered with Ohio players. The same can't be said about OSU. Get your facts straight.

A total of 13 commits, 4 of which are unrated and 5 of which are 2 star prospects. Furthermore, a long time verbal commitment and best O-line recruit switched to their rival (USC) this morning. Ol' Rick fired both coordinators and months later has not found replacements. He's burying that program the same way he did ours.

What do you expect a coach to say about his recruits. I bet UCLA's coach will defend his two stars recruits the same way.
He picked him out of the crowd and was really excited about him. It's not like he's going around saying it about everyone. A big, tall, athletic tackle is simply perfect for his system and he knows it.
