Both men charge to the center of the Octagon. Lytle opens up with his hands and absolutely blasts Davis with a punching flurry. Davis, a former boxer like Lytle, recovers quickly and trades a few low kicks. A straight left and a body kick connect for Davis. At the midway point of round one, both fighters swing for the fences and nothing lands clean. Davis catches a low kick and shoves Lytle to the floor. A left hand lead lands for the southpaw Davis. An incidental clash of heads sends Lytle briefly to the canvas, but Davis allows him to stand. Lytle absorbs a flying knee, a stiff body kick and another left hand. After a shaky start, the first round is all Davis.

I started making notes on my predictions, because I'm gonna start betting for real. I want to know what I did wrong and right. Here are some my notes for this fight:

*watched Lytle/Alves
Lytle jumps in with looping punches
He can be caught coming in with a straight, and Alves did, which is the punch that opened up the cut.
Open for uppercuts, too

*watched Lytle/Taylor
Again Lytle comes in wild and looping.
Gets caught with straight and catch and punch counter.
Taylor didn't really have the power to hurt him though.

*watched Davis/Guillard
Had trouble with reach and kicks
Otherwise okay when looking a fight with Lytle
*Watched Davis/Spratt
Again trouble with kicks, but landed good counters and straights. Able to weather some good storms



*watched Davis/Taylor
Taylor really hurt Davis, but it was a kick.
Showed a good chin, but perhaps not as good as Lytle's vs Taylor. Taylor's hands didn't hurt Lytle at all, but he never landed a kick vs Lytle.
Common opponents: Paul Taylor
Davis pulled out a sub in RD 1, but only after he nearly got KO'd from a kick


Lytle won the stand-up and didn't even try the ground - he probably could have pulled off a sub, too, but he didn't want to. He won the UD. He took a lot of straight shots from Taylor and they didn't faze him, but he blocked all the kicks.

*BOTH THESE GUYS CUT A LOT. A TKO WILL PROBABLY BE FROM A CUT.
Picked Davis. Lytle says he's going to stand. If I can see that Davis can catch Lytle on those wild punches, then I know Delagrotta can.
Lytle can exploit Davis's weakness vs kicks, but I don't think he'll figure it out.
Davis has reach - when he doesn't he has problems.
Decision because Lytle is tough - a TKO vs cut can happen though.

Davis continues to work the body with stiff kicks from his left leg. Lytle gets wild with his hands as he misses a fury of haymakers from both hands. Lytle is tiring and it shows with his impatience and lack of balance. Lytle lands his best punch since the opening seconds of the round, a straight right lead. Davis misses on a jumping knee as he bleeds from the nose. The men walk to the center of the Octagon to trade punches in the final 10 seconds.

My notes on this one:

Dammit - both guys are flakey so it's a hard pick. I want to pick Kang, so I might be biased.
Belcher didn't impress vs Herman and looked crappy vs Day
Vs Herman his stand-up was only slightly better than Herman's, but his take-down defense looked better than in the past
Kang certainly has better stand-up than Herman, but IMHO his wrestling is not as good. I don't think he would want to trade with Belcher - maybe he'll test the waters first. Can he take Belcher down? Belcher kicks a lot - might be an opportunity.

Even though Belcher looks a lot bigger, going with Kang because ATT (when in doubt go with great camp), and Kang's recent losses are to Akiyama, Misaki, and Mousasi. All those guys are different fighters and better than Belcher. Belcher's losses are to Day and Grove - also I think he lost to Herman (Herman was robbed). Kang is IMHO better than all of those, although Herman and Grove are tough match-ups for him, too.

I'm picking dec, although a sub is tempting. Belcher's most common way to lose is dec. I think it'll be a 29-28 fight, maybe a split.
